Volume Shadowing, Mirroring, and Merges?

» close window

The Question is:

Pros and Cons of Shadowing vs Mirroring. We currently use Shadowing
on our cluster. The merge operations after a problem are killing us for
up to 18 hours due to the size of some Database Stripe sets. Would
"Mirroring" work any different after a problem?

Thanks,

The Answer is :

OpenVMS typically considers Volume Shadowing to be the same as
Disk Mirroring -- two names for the same operation.

Information on the particular problems around the merge and around
the event triggering the merge will be of interest -- please contact
the Compaq Customer Support Center for assistance.

The OpenVMS Wizard would recommend loading the current ECO kit
for shadowing as a first step, and considering various software-
and hardware-based options based on the assumption that host-based
volume shadowing is presently in use.
