SMG, upcasing, and keypad mode?

The Question is:

 
I'm writing code in Fortran using the SMG
libraries. when I set the keypad to Application
mode I am able to set the input mode of read
string to convert everything to uppercase, but
it stops working when I set the keypad back to
numeric mode.  any ideas ?

The Answer is :

 
  The Wizard is not familiar with this particular odd behaviour.
  Please contact the customer support center.  Expect to be asked
  for a small standalone hunk of the Fortran source code as an
  example of the problem, and which terminal is in use.
 
  The keypad keys can generate numeric values and specific escape
  sequences (when in numeric mode), or specific escape sequences
  for all keys (when in keypad mode).
