TCP/IP (UCX) upgrade failing with PCSI REFUNA?

» close window

The Question is:

I'm upgrading DEC TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS to V5.0 with Polycenter
Software Installation.
According to Installation Guide I must remove
previous UCX version:

$ PRODUCT REMOVE UCX

The following product has been selected:
    DEC AXPVMS UCX V4.1-12 Layered Product

Do you want to continue? [YES]

%PCSI-E-REFUNA, product DEC AXPVMS UCX V4.1-12 referenced by DEC AXPVMS
OPENVMS V7.1 is unavailable. Terminating is strongly recommended. Do you
want to terminate? [YES]

$ UCX
UCX> SHOW VERSION
  Digital TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Alpha Version 4.1 - ECO Level 2 on
AlphaServer 1000A 5/400 running OpenVMS V7.1

UCX>

I believe a patch has been installed without PCSI being informed. May a
transition PCSI registration solve this problem? Could you specify the
instruction syntax?

Thank you.

The Answer is :

  OpenVMS is configured to be dependent on the presence of UCX, and
  PCSI is correctly balking at removing a prerequisite product.

  Boot from the OpenVMS Installation CD-ROM, exit to DCL, and request
  that OpenVMS be reconfigured using the following sequence:

    $$$ DEFINE/SYSTEM PCSI$SYSDEVICE target:
    $$$ DEVINE/STSTEM PCSI$SPECIFIC target:[SYS0.]
    $$$ ! If SYS0 is not a valid system root on the target disk,
    $$$ ! then specify (any) root that does exist in its place.
    $$$ PRODUCT RECONFIGURE VMS /REMOTE/SOURCE=target:[VMS$COMMON]

  Reconfigure OpenVMS to remove the dependency on the UCX product.
  After this sequence, you should be able to reboot on the OpenVMS
  system disk and successfully PRODUCT REMOVE UCX, and then install
  TCP/IP Services.
