IDE CD-ROM Bootstrap on Personal Workstation?

» close window

The Question is:

I have a 433au Alpha Personal workstation running Open Vms Alpha 7.1-1H2 and
I am trying to boot standalone backup from CD-rom to do an Image backup
using:

>>>boot -flags 0,0 dqb0:

I get the following messages:

block is valid boot block
read 911 blocks from DQB0
bootstrap code read in
init HWRPB at 2000
init page table
init machine state
setting affinity to primary CPU
jumping to bootstrap code

Then it starts failing:

failed to send read to dqbo.o.o.207.0

it seems to get in a never ending failure loop and I have to push the halt
to get out of this

My question is, how do I boot the standalone backup to do an image backup?
Is this a VMS bug? What do I need to do?

The Answer is :

If you have an IDE CD-ROM drive, you will require the ALPDRIV07071 (or
later) floppy kit, or you will require OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-2 or later.

Unless you specifically require operations on OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-1H1 or
V7.1-1H2, an upgrade to OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-2 (or later) is recommended.

On V7.1-1H2, you will need to use the following bootstrap command to
bootstrap off the IDE CD-ROM drive on the Personal Workstation:

    boot -fl 0,80000 dqb0, dva0

Where DQB0 is the name of the CD-ROM drive, and DVA0 is the name of the
  floppy drive.

The OpenVMS Wizard would recommend using a bootable environment kit for
OpenVMS V7.1-2 or later. You can order the V7.1-2 kit via the part number
  QA-MT1AR-H8, the CD-ROM price is circa US$22.
