OpenVMS User Licensing Limits?

» close window

The Question is:

This may sound oxymoronic. Is there a limit to the number of concurrent
OpenVMS users that is supported by an ALPHA PWS 433au? I have a 4 user
OpenVMS license but it does not allow more than two concurrent users?
Compaq presales sanctioned the four user
license with the PWS 433au. Any suggestions?

The Answer is :

OpenVMS does not have a particular limit on the number of users,
  assuming that:

o the number of users is less than the number of processes
supported on the system, with a maximum MAXPROCESSCNT value
of 16384 on recent OpenVMS Alpha versions

o licensing and application restrictions permit it. In this
case, you will need enough user PAK units loaded for four
      users.

o sufficient physical memory, disk storage, and pagefile(s) and
swapfile(s) space are all available for the expected number of
      users.

You will want to check with Compaq Customer Support for the particular
licenses required, and for any licensing-related problems.
