Remote BACKUP via TCP/IP?

» close window

The Question is:

There is an old trick to run backup through
DECNET to another nodes tape drive. Is there
one like it for TCP/IP?

The Answer is :

DECnet provides capabilities not available via TCP/IP, particularly
around the record-level capabilities and integration of the File Access
  Listener (FAL) into OpenVMS.

There is presently no way to redirect BACKUP activity to a specified
  routine via the API.

The most obvious approach would be a pseudo-device connection to a remote
node, or a client-server BACKUP package, or the use of an OpenVMS Cluster
and remote tape (or remote disk) services.
