Accidential INITIALIZE of storage media?

The Question is:

 
I managed to do INITIALIZE on my data-disk!
Is there a way to recover the files that was on that disk?

The Answer is :

 
  Write-lock or DISMOUNT the disk immediately.
 
  Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center for assistance.
 
  Topics specific to unintential initialization or the overwriting of
  disk and tape media include (1286) and (6990).
