Y2K Readiness? LMF and Licensing?

» close window

The Question is:

Wizard,

We have computers running VMS 4.5, 4.7, and 5.2.
Two questions:
Are the operating systems truly Y2K complient?
I ran the suggested date tests from the Compaq
website and they passed.
Is the DECNet licensing different betweeen versions?
The 4.5 and 4.7 machines do not have a command
called license, but the 5.2 does. Is this the
software that was previously installed or an
operating system difference.

Thanks,

Jason Meketa

The Answer is :

Only those operating system versions evalated by Compaq are considered
to be Y2K Ready, please see the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
sections such as "Does OpenVMS have a problem with the year 2000?", and
"Do I need to consider Y2K? Do I even need the Y2K ECO?" for information.

LMF was implemented in V5.0, as part of the support for consolidated
software distribution on CD-ROM media -- this LMF support includes the
LICENSE command and various other software components.

DECnet has an LMF PAK in V5.0 and later -- the DVNETEND, DVNETEXT,
or DVNETRTG PAK, depending on the platform, version, and features.
