Changing DECnet node address?

» close window

The Question is:

System consists of six VAX 4000-500 servers and numerous VAX 4000-90
workstations. For reasons too numerous to list, version upgrade is
impossible.
System DecNet was originally configured as area one (default), but is to be
integrated into a multiple-area network. As the new area on the block, our
identity as area one must be changed to fifteen.
Is there some relatively painless method of changing the DecNet area
identity without affecting other products already installed and configured?

The Answer is :

Re-run NETCONFIG.COM, and select the same node name and the new DECnet
  node address.

For another related discussion of changing the node name, please see
the OpenVMS FAQ: "MGMT9. How do I change the node name of an OpenVMS
  System?".

If this is an OpenVMS Cluster, you will need a cluster reboot as you
are changing part of the name-address pair. (You will be changing the
value of SCSSYSTEMID for each node, but not SCSNODE.)
