BACKUP selects extra files?

» close window

The Question is:

OS AXP 7.1 1-H1. Problem with operation backup/record/since=backup.
This command everuone archiving all files from ODS2 disk. Why ?
This command on 6.2 working properly.

The Answer is :

There were changes made at V6.2 that will pick up all files necessary
for an incremental restore, even those seemingly unnecessary.

To reduce this for customers not planning to perform an incremental
restore, a new qualifier /NOINCREMENTAL has been added.

Also check the BACKUP-related dates on the directories included in the
BACKUP, up to and including the 000000 root directory when appropriate.

With a system disk or other disk with alias directories, the BACKUP/IMAGE
qualifier /NOALIAS can reduce the amount of tape used. This requires
knowledge of the primary entry for the file when selectively restoring
files, but during an /IMAGE restoration the alias entries are automatically
  reconsituted.

That said, it is not clear what the dates on the file are currently set
to, and if there is a particular problem with the existing backup dates
or with the selection of the files performed by BACKUP. As there are
known problems with BACKUP, please acquire and apply the available ECO
kit for BACKUP. The OpenVMS Wizard would also encourage you to upgrade
from OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-1H1 to V7.1-2, to V7.2, to V7.2-1, or later.

If the problem persists, please contact the Compaq Customer Suport Center.
