The Question is: We upgraded to Alpha 4100 server recently. We use EXCEED X-window emulation program to log on to the server. Now we are prompted with a different log on screen that require us to specify the session type along with username and password. We have asked HUMMINGBIRD's technical support that they said once the connection is made successfully, the EXCEED program works properly. The log on screen set up should be resided on Open VMS side. When we double-click the Xsession icon, a X window titled login_shell pops up, display a Digital log on screen banner that asks for username and password. It has four buttons: OK, StartOver, Options and Help. Everytime we log on, we have to click on the O ptions button, select "Session", and select "DEC windows sessions" from the menu list of "New Desktop", "Failsafe session" and "DECwindows sessions". Thanks in advance! The Answer is : As described, this appears to be the standard and expected DECwindows CDE login box -- this is the default login display when using DECwindows V1.2-4 and V1.2-5 (and later) on OpenVMS Alpha systems. Your particular question is not entirely clear. If you wish to always specify the DECwindows Motif login, then please see the existing discussion of choosing DECwindows Motif over CDE, and DECwindows CDE vs Motif login, here in Ask The Wizard. If you wish to perform an automatic login, see the existing discussion of AUTOLOGIN for some hints.
