SDA SHOW LAN Counter information?

» close window

The Question is:

I use the anal/system to look at the lan adapters (ie show lan/dev=ewc)
to take a simple look at counters, etc. Where could I go
to learn more about the wealth of infomation that is being displayed, that
I have no clue what it means. Specifically, I am seeing slowness in
response at times on this card via IP connections and was wondering
if changing some buffer size or number settings might help.

Thanks

The Answer is :

Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center for assistance in
locating performance problems and in tuning the TCP/IP Services network
operations, or (if not the TCP/IP Services package) contact the vendor
of the particular other IP package in use. You will want to identify
the particular network card involved -- there are a variety of network
devices that use the EW interface.

With TCP/IP Services, ensure that (at least) V5.0A is in use.

The usual SDA display of interest for this area includes the octets sent
and octets received counters, as well as the various other counters of
  collisions and failures.

Documentation on these areas is expected to be added (likely to the I/O
User's Reference Manual) as part of the OpenVMS V7.3 release, including
LAN troubleshooting information. (The OpenVMS Wizard is not aware of
any specific and detailed documentation on the the ANALYZE/SYSTEM (SDA)
SHOW LAN command available prior to the V7.3 release.)
