AlphaPC and other unsupported motherboards?

» close window

The Question is:

Are there plans for OpenVMS to support the Alpha PC 264DP motherboard?

How about 3rd party motherboards such as the UP2000 from
Alpha Processor inc?

If so, is it possible to purchase (in my case, for a University environment)
OpenVMS base licenses for such products?

Many thanks for your time.

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard will be deliberately vague in this answer.

The list of supported platforms is present in the OpenVMS Software
Product Description (SPD). The OpenVMS Wizard is not aware of any
plans to officially support these motherboard products -- those Alpha
motherboards that are of sufficiently close resemblance to a formally
supported platform might (or might not) operate.

Use of officially supported platforms is strongly recommended when
  seeking support under software license.

The DECUS hobbyist program may be of interest in some environments.
Platforms such as the Multia are officially unsupported, but can be
gotten to boot -- see the FAQ for details.

That said, if you are asking this question, you probably do not want
  to attempt this approach.
