Connecting parallel printer to OpenVMS? (LP37)

» close window

The Question is:

Can I use the com2 serial port to connect a printer? I wanted to connect an
old lp37 digital printer that use to be connected to our vax. If the answer
is yet what is the device name or how do I set the printer up in vms? What
type of cable can I use?

The Answer is :

You will require a local or served parallel interface, as most LP37
printers require a parallel connection -- COM2 is a serial port, not
a parallel port. A DECserver 250 is one possibility, since you are
working with older gear -- this is a network device that provides a
  connection to a parallel printer.
