Playing music CD on workstation?

» close window

The Question is:

I recently purchased and installed a Compaq Personal Workstation 600au. I am
running OpenVMS 7.1-2 and DECwindows Motif 1.2-4. I am trying to set up
DECsound, so that I can play musical CD'S and listen to audio files. I
followed the procedure on the FRE
EWARE 3.0 software CD, but I keep receiving DIVI errors. I read the
questions you had on DECsound, but they all refer to OpenVMS 6.1-6.2. If
these answers do apply to my version of OVMS and Motif, then where are the
files found on the OVMS 7.1-2 disk th
at I need to install? Also, please give a detailed step by step discription
of what needs to be done with any new files and how to get DECsound and
CD_Player running on my systems.

The Answer is :

Please see the OpenVMS FAQ section entitled "UTIL1. How do I play
an audio CD on my workstation?".

The tools and capabilities require a SCSI CD-ROM -- audio CD support
is not presently available on the IDE interface (SYS$DQDRIVER).

DECsound is unrelated to the operation of music CDs.
