Forgotten the SYSTEM Password? (FAQ)

The Question is:

 
Hello, Mr Wizard,
I request you to give procedures/clarifications about the following.
We have open vms 6.1 in Vax 4000/60 machine.  We are trying to update vms
from 6.1 to 7.1.  We could not succeed because, we don't have the system
password (to get $ prompt after rebooting, which is to be entered at session
manager's window).  What is the
 procedure to break in that password and to create new password in that
place.  I request you to give clear cut procedure.  Next how to update the
vms system from 6.1 to 7.1.  I request you to give clear cut procedure for
this also.  (we have copy of vms
7.1 in the hard disk (dka)with volume label OPENVMS071  and the same is to
be transferred to another hard disk (volume label OPENVMS061), which is
having PBS30 application of ABB.
