Reading BACKUP savesets?

» close window

The Question is:

I have some old VAX/VMS backups (made with BACKUP under
VMS version 4.x most likely). I have no way now on my PC's or
Unix systems to even find out what files are included. Can OpenVMS read
these?

If so, might you know anyone to whom I might email these 2 files, who
could extract the individual files for me?  (I know that's an odd question;
alternatively, is there any Microsoft Windows or Unix tool which can extract
files from VMS savesets?)

The Answer is :

  OpenVMS is VMS, and OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS Alpha BACKUP utilities
  are compatible and can read older BACKUP tapes.

  The OpenVMS Wizard is not in a position to offer this service, nor
  to recommend PC packages that can (potentially) read BACKUP savesets.
  The Compaq Services folks, on the other hand, can typically offer
  this and similar media services.
