DE500-?? in 64-bit PCI slot?

» close window

The Question is:

Hardware: DIGITAL Alphastation 600 5/333
Software: OpenVMS Alpha V6.2

Question:
The Alphastation comes with both 32 & 64-bits PCI slots, when I install a DE500 10/100MB ethernet card to the 64-bit slot, it can be seen on console prompt, but disappear after booting up OpenVMS.

It works prefectly when installing in 32-bits PCI slot (can be seen on both console and VMS prompt.

The Answer is :

OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 is rather old, and a number of changes have been
made since that time -- there are configurations where an ECO kit or
upgrade is required to get the DE500 recognized when inserted in a
64-bit PCI slot rather than the expected 32-bit PCI slot. Or,
obviously, don't use the 64-bit slot for the DE500.

Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center for assistance,
as details on the configuration, the installed ECO kits (if any)
(eg: ALPLAN05_062) and the specific DE500 controller involved will
  be required.
