BACKUP, DLT tape, and POSITERR and IVDENS Errors?

» close window

The Question is:

Trying to use a TZ88 on a AlphaServer 4100 5/533 4MB running VMS 7.2-1. I am
 having a problem running backup when more than 1 tape is required. It writes
 to the first tape ok and requests a second tape. I load that, it gets mounted
 and within a few second
s it comes back with an error:

%BACKUP-E-POSITERR, error positioning MKE0:[]OGK.TUE;
-SYSTEM-F-IVDENS, invalid density

I tried to init several tapes. Tried INIT/DENS=... and still had same problem.
 I can do a regular backup to 1 tape ok.

The Answer is :

  Assuming that the current OpenVMS ECO kits have been applied, and
  assuming that this misbehaviour can be duplicated using new and
  previously unused DLT tape media, please contact the Compaq Customer
  Support Center directly.
