HP OpenVMS Systemsask the wizard |
The Question is:
Hi,
I'm trying to boot an old VAXstation 3100 M38. When i type 'boot dka300' the
system says
-DKA300
?42 NOSUCHFILE, DKA300
?06 HLT INST
PC = 00000BBE
Does it say that VMS is not installed (I've never seen this computer running),
the hard drive crashed or is it another problem ?
Another question : I don't have any CD of VMS.
Must I buy a VMS license to re-install VMS if necessary ?
Many thanks.

The Answer is : Please first install OpenVMS VAX on this system -- it appears that the target disk does not contain a (valid) copy of OpenVMS. In order to legally use OpenVMS, you must have a valid license. Information on the OpenVMS Hobbyist program and the associated CD-ROM distribution -- if this program is applicable to your planned use of this system -- is available in the OpenVMS FAQ. The OpenVMS Wizard knows of very few excuses that would apologize for the lack of a CD-ROM on this system or on other SCSI-capable systems. If you choose to acquire a third-party CD-ROM drive, it must support 512 byte block transfers -- RRD-series CD-ROM drives have this support.
