Moving to OpenVMS?

The Question is:

We have a Dec 3000 running Ultrix which we wish to convert to OpenVMS Alpha,
Ver 7.1 via CD. Do you have documentation on how to accomplish this.

Thank you.

The Answer is :

ULTRIX is not available on the Alpha line. If this is a DEC 3000 series
Alpha system (and not a DECstation or similar series system), then the
system will be running Tru64 UNIX (also known as DEC OSF/1 or DIGITAL
  UNIX), and not ULTRIX.

OpenVMS installation documentation is available at the OpenVMS Website.
Please see the OpenVMS FAQ for pointers to the documentation website.

You will first need to verify that your SROM is sufficiently new -- you
will need SROM version V2.1 or later at minimum. Upgrade your DEC 3000
series SRM per the documentation available at the Alpha firmware website
(see the FAQ for pointers), and switch the SRM to the OpenVMS environment
  using:

    >>> set os_type VMS

  Then power-cycle the system.

The OpenVMS Wizard will assume that any TURBOchannel I/O controllers in
this system are all supported by OpenVMS, but this will also need to be
  verified.

If your SROM is older than V2.1, you will need to acquire a newer version.
The part number for the necessary SROM is 23-333E7-00 (or later).
