Page read errors? (PAGRDERR)

The Question is:

 
Subject: Fatal VAXTPU internal error.
 
Why is it everytime I invoke edit/tpu to edit a file, it gives me a Fatal
 VAXTPU internal error.

The system I am using is a MicroVAXII running VAX/VMS V5.3-1.

The Answer is :

 
  Page read errors usually point to hardware or to disk corruptions,
  though conceivably some software fault could be involved.
 
  The OpenVMS Wizard would encourage the creation and maintenance of
  full standalone BACKUP/IMAGE copies of the system disk and of any
  local data disks on the available archival storage media.
 
  The V5.3-1 release was shipped out back in early 1990.  For the
  information on the available sequences for OpenVMS upgrades to
  more recent releases, please see the OpenVMS FAQ.
