» close window

The Question is:

I have 2 ES40's running OpenVMS 7.2-1 and I was going to install Oracle 8+ as
the database on the ES40. Oracle sales said that OpenVMS is nolonger
supported. Is this true. And if so What database will compaq be supporting on
 the Alpha platform using VMS.
I have been told that Oracle 8I will run on true64. Is that the direction that
 Compaq is moving to.

The Answer is :

It is the understanding of the OpenVMS Wizard that the statement
attributed to the Oracle Sales Representative is incorrect.

For further details and a letter on the continued plans for Oracle on
OpenVMS from Jerry Robertson (VP Compaq Platform Solutions at Oracle)
and Rich Marcello (VP of OpenVMS at Compaq), please see:

This is a discussion of Oracle Classic on OpenVMS and not of Oracle Rdb.
New releases of Oracle Rdb continue to be available on both OpenVMS VAX
  and OpenVMS Alpha platforms.

Please contact the folks at Oracle support for further information and
for the official status of Oracle products.
