Controlling Console-mode Graphics Display?

» close window

The Question is:

Is there a way to set the graphics colsole text size. We have an alpha 1000
which the text does not get chopped off, but on our new Alpha 800 the text
during the boot process gets chopped off on the right hand side. Is there a
 setting such as Char_set whi
ch affords a 132 column mode??? on the Alpha 800 (Our customer complained about
 this - go figure)

  Thanks

The Answer is :

The console-mode text size depends greatly on the settings and options of
the particular graphics controller used for console operations -- during
the bootstrap, primitive VGA-level graphics operations are typically used
  on the console display.

Obviously, a serial console and/or bootstrap logging can also be used, and
can avoid most of (all of?) this entire discussion.
