Zip, Unzip, and encryption?

» close window

The Question is:

The current version of ZIP for OpenVMS does not recognise the -e password
encryption option discussed in the (1L) manual page.

Is there an OpenVMS compatible version of ZIP that does use a password option?

If not, when will this option be added to ZIP for OpenVMS?

The Answer is :

There are various versions of zip around, and the source code for
various versions of zip is readily available.

The Info-ZIP versions of Zip V2.0 and later and Unzip V5.12 and later
have this support, when built with zcrypt. This version of Zip (or
later) is available on the OpenVMS Freeware, in the InfoZIP directory.

Various provided pre-built images will not contain encryption (such
as the versions of the images that are included on the OpenVMS Freeware),
as exporting and/or importing encryption technologies can have various
legal restrictions, and can have licensing and other legal implications.
