Rolling Upgrade of PATHWORKS?

» close window

The Question is:

A client of ours is finally upgrading thier Pathworks V4.2 to 6.0C then, later
to V7.2. I wish to be able to have V6.0C running at the same time as V4.2
while I setup trusts, shares and group access. Then, I'll email users a script
 that they can run that
will modify the drive and printer mappings to the new server. Currently V4.2 is
running the TCP netbios and the clients are using windows network mapping to
connect to shares. Is there a way to have both V4.2 and V6.0C running at the
 same time using TCP?
I'm not worried about it being supported by COMPAQ since this scenerio will
only exist for a very short time.
Thanks in advance.

The Answer is :

There is no supported nor reliable nor documented means for
a rolling upgrade of PATHWORKS (Advanced Server).

That said, some customer sites have tried a rolling upgrade of
PATHWORKS (Advanced Server), and have reported the following
  considerations:

  1. There is no rolling upgrade possible on a single system.
Like an OpenVMS rolling upgrade, a rolling upgrade of a
layered product must involve a cluster and must also involve
     multiple OpenVMS system disks.

  2. You must to protect you data from simultaneous access from
parallel PATHWORKS (Advanced Server) file servers -- parallel
access to the same files from different file server versions
     must not be permitted.

  3. You will want to use the most recent ECOs of the versions
     that you are considering.
