Old Printers and the Euro Character?

» close window

The Question is:

How to print the EURO symbol on DEC3500 printer?
DCPS V1.7 is on the system. In general, which DEC printer can do the EURO and
what updates (firmware, ROM etc.) are needed? If the DEC printers are NOT
doing the job, which ones are known to do it on OpenVMS/Alpha 7.2 or higher?

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard does not have a particular nor a complete list
of printers nor of particular printer hardware capabilities -- and
the DIGITAL printer business was acquired by Genicom some years ago.

The LN14 DEClaser 3500 Postscript printer does not have the Euro
character, though DCPS can provide it to most Postscript printers.
While Postscript printers accessed via DCPS should be able to print
the Euro character, PPL (ANSI) printers can require a downloadable
character set support and/or printer hardware upgrade.

For general information on the Euro with OpenVMS, please visit:

As should be obvious, simple printer replacement can also be an
option, as the DEClaser 3500 (LN14) series is many years old.
(This printer was announced in 1994.)
