RZ28 disk drive jumpers?

» close window

The Question is:

I have a RZ28-A SCSI drive (rev H02). How do I designate the drive as the
 *last* SCSI device?

I believe it involves crossing a pair of pins, but I don't have a manual.

Is there an online source for technical info for the RZ28 drives?

Thanks....

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard expects you refer to the SCSI construct known
as termination, and a SCSI bus is normally terminated using a
connector known as a terminator. Some SCSI devices do offer an
internal termination mechanism, and this is usually switchable.
More often than not, it is easiest to use an external terminator.

This reply applies specifically to the RZ28 drive, and not to the
  RZ28C, RZ28D, RZ28L, RZ28M or other drives.

On a six-pin connector located on the RZ28 drive electronics module
behind the SCSI connector (with the active termination jumper being
nearest the SCSI connector), the following combinations are available:

+==+ Drive will power the SCSI terminator (jumper)
  + +
+ + Active termination disabled (no jumper)

+ + Drive does not power the SCSI terminator
  + +
  +==+  Active termination enabled

+==+ Drive will power the SCSI terminator
  + +
  +==+  Active termination enabled

+ + Drive does not power the SCSI terminator
  + +
+ + Active termination is disabled

As for the RZ28 option connector (J3), the pinout is as follows:

    19 17 -- 3 1
    20 18 -- 4 2
    --------------module

  1 ID <0> L 2 LOGIC_GND L
  3 ID <1> L 4 LOGIC_GND L
  5 ID <2> L 6 LOGIC_GND L
  7 FLT_OUT L 8 key
  9 BSY_OUT L 10 SPNDL_SYNC_REF L
  1 +5.0V H 12 reserved
  13 DELAY_SPIN or WrtProt 14 LOGIC_GND L
  15 AC_LOW 16 LOGIC_GND L
  17 (reserved) 18 (reserved)
  19 SPNDL_SYNC_REF L 20 LOGIC_GND L

Of these pins, pins 1, 3, and 5 are the most interesting, as
these pins set the SCSI unit ID on the RZ28.
