OPCOM, OPERATOR.LOG, security audits and alarms?

» close window

The Question is:

I can not get OPCOM to log any security messages to the operator log.
It is logging normal system information, such as telnet request, but that is it.
I have reply/enable on the operator console.
The disk that the operator.log is on has 4109156 blocks free.
How can I get the log to log all events?? Especially security!!

The Answer is :

For details on the operation and configuration of OPCOM and of OPCOM
logging operations, please see the SYLOGICALS.TEMPLATE file.

Also please see the available OpenVMS security documentation, and
specifically please see the DCL command SET AUDIT for enabling specific
types of security alarms (usually distributed via OPCOM) and specific
types of security audits (normally written to the auditing database).

The OpenVMS Wizard generally does not recommend use of the OPCOM
mechanism for security logging purposes, as the capabilities of the
auditing database and associated reporting are far better than that
  of OPCOM.
