Disk Errors?

» close window

The Question is:

I have a Alpha Compaq XP900 VAX and Hughes has told me that the hard drive has
errors on it and may crash at any time now.
I would like to know if there is anything I can do to check and repair the
 drive if it is faulty?
Is there any utillity software or commands I can use to check the drive and
 repair it?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated,Thanks.

The Answer is :

Please ask your hardware support organization for assistance.

With modern disk drives, errors typically indicate a hardware or
cabling problem or impending precede disk driuve failure -- disk
drives do correct errors by revectoring bad blocks, meaning that
errors generated by the disk itself tend to imply an impending
hardware problem. SCSI troubleshooing and shortening the SCSI
cabling runs and such have all been discussed before here in Ask
  The Wizard.

Reporting tools include DECevent (see the FAQ) and there are
diagnostics and documentation for various platforms available
from the Compaq Assisted Services (CAS; see the FAQ) program.
