Networking Options on (old) OpenVMS VAX release?

» close window

The Question is:

I need to connect to an old VAXStation 3500 running VMS5.1 via the local
network from a Windows 2000 machine. I was wondering if there is a DECNet
protocol driver for WIndows 2000 or if the VAX can be configured to use
TCP/IP. What I would like to do is
copy files from the VAX. If you know of a more generic way to do this (FTP,
etc.) I would appreciate any info you can supply. Thanks.

The Answer is :

DECnet is available for various Windows platforms as part of
the PATHWORKS product, and TCP/IP is available for most OpenVMS
releases. Your central problem is the ancient version of OpenVMS
involved here -- nothing approaching any currently-available
networking software can be installed on V5.1.
