Finding Software Packages?

The Question is:

Hi.

Our site has a need to be able to communicate to an IBM Mainframe via the 5250
protocol. We need to do this from a process on the VAX. Do you know if there
is any source for 5250 emulation software that runs on OpenVMS? Is there some
 "master list" main
tained by HP that has VMS software vendors and their products?

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS FAQ has a section on finding software and software packages,
a section which will be of interest here.

So you seek a terminal emulator for the IBM 5250 series terminal for
use on OpenVMS? That would appear somewhat odd, as most applications
would use X.25 or SNA or IP for communications with the IBM system.
(The OpenVMS Wizard will assume this is an attempt to use the
OpenVMS pseudoterminal mechanism or such to directly control an
application running on the IBM system that is requiring 5250 series
terminal access. This is ugly, of course.)

Various X.25 and 5250 terminal emulation products have been available.
Also protentially of interest will be the TN3270 and TN5250 terminal
  emulation protocols.

TCP/IP Services offers TN3270, and at least one third-party IP stack
offers TN5250. There may well be open source available, as well.
