DCPS And LaserJet 4100 Postscript?

» close window

The Question is:

VMS 7.1
DCPS 2.1

We are experiencing problems with Postscript files, via DCPS, to an HP4100
 printer.
The same Postscript files print out correctly when sent to an HP8100 and HP4050.
All these particular printers are now stated as being supported by DCPS.

The problem is that, when printing to the HP4100, the Postscript Backdrop (Logo
etc..) is printed on the first page but not on the following pages. For these
pages all that prints out is text and no backdrop.

On the HP4050 and HP8100 the postscript backdrop prints on every page as it
 should do.
Any reason why the HP4100 is having problems?

We have also just installed the Field Test version 2.2 on a VMS system running
VMS 7.3 and that also gives the same results as above.

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard will assume that all queues and all files printed
are identical, and the difference is specific to the HP LaserJet 4100.

Please check the firmware on the HP LaserJet 4100 printer as a start,
as this does not immediately appear to be an OpenVMS or DECprint
Services (DCPS) problem. This appears specific to the LaserJet 4100,
and specifically to the Postscript implementation within the printer.
(Accordingly and if you have current firmware loaded, you will want to
contact the HP LaserJet support organization for assistance with this
  problem.)

As of this writing, DCPS V2.3 is current. (A DCPS software upgrade is
comparatively unlikely to resolve a printer-specific Postscript problem.)
