TCP/IP Gateway Address Corruption?

» close window

The Question is:

We have been running UCX v4.1 on OpenVMS v6.2(VAX) for 2 years without a hitch.
In the last week or so, the Gateway entry in the UCX volatile database is
being overwritten by other IP addresses (usually PC IP addresses). The
 frequency is very intermitten
t- from none at weekend, upto 10+ other days. The config. of UCX has not
changed and is very basic - Host IP, Gateway, 1 NFS mount.
Why is this now happening/how can I prevent it happening ?

All suggestions welcome.
Thanks,
Brendan

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard will assume that the cause is a bug, and not simply
a manual reconfiguration of TCP/IP Services that you are not aware of.

While the cause is certainly interesting, it is a often a non-trivial
problem and is -- beyond its use by the engineer(s) involved in resolving
the bug -- not particularly useful. The resolution is arguably far more
interesting, and this typically involves eliminating the various known
and previously-resolved problems through the appropriate application of
software version upgrades and the mandatory and applicable ECO kits.

Put another way, please move to the current ECO for TCP/IP Services V4.1
or (better) to V4.2 and the current ECO. As OpenVMS VAX V7.0 was not a
major release, you will particularly also want to consider an upgrade to
OpenVMS VAX V7.3 and TCP/IP Services V5.3 releases or later (as available).
