The Question is: Has any progress been made on the logging enhancement to TCP/IP Services since you wrote in May 1999 (Ask the wizard topic 2393)? I too would like to see the log file logging the names of files which were stored and retrieved in a given FTP session. Quote: Tracking FTP activity? Is it possible to add to UCX$FTPSERVER.LOG file (or to any other log file) what commands were executed in this FTP session? If no - is there any other solution how to monitor FTP usage? We are running OpenVMS V6.2-1H3 on Digital Alpha 4000, UCX version 4.1-12, all users are accessing system from PCs on LAN via TCP/IP. The Answer is : There are no logging capabilities integrated into FTP. Short of using OpenVMS security alarms or security audits on files, directories, or disk volumes, or using the username auditing flag on the FTP server username, there is no way to do this. A request for this enhancement has been passed to the TCP/IP Services engineering team. answer written or last revised on 6-MAY-1999 The Answer is : The OpenVMS security alarms mechanism -- as referenced in topic (2393) and as cited in your question -- will provide you with what you seek. The OpenVMS Wizard is curious as to why this question even arises, given that the OpenVMS version referenced here is very old and supported only with a Prior Version Support contract, and the TCP/IP Services version in use is no longer supported. Further, the backporting of enhancements to these or any similarly old product releases is exceedingly unlikely. On more current releases (V5.1 ECO 2 and later), also see the related FTP client activity logging mechanisms. (This is covered in the ECO and the release notes, in the documentation for the earliest releases.) Also please see the anonymous FTP access logging mechanisms, as described in the TCP/IP Services management documentation. (Non-anonymous access can be easily tracked with the OpenVMS security alarms.)
