DCPS and third-party printers?

» close window

The Question is:

We used an layeredproduct DCPS used succesfull for printing on a HP-printer.
Now we have an XEROX 440ST. This printer support the 9100-port, so printing on
a VMS-que with an HP-library will work. Define a que within DCPS wil not work
We use DCPS V1.2
Is it possible to make this working or is it neccesary to update the
 DCPS-software?

Platform:
DIGITAL TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Alpha Version V5.0A
  on a AlphaServer 800 5/333 running OpenVMS V7.1-1H1

The Answer is :

The particular Xerox printer mentioned is not supported by current
versions of DCPS, and has been shown to be incompatible with DCPS
as that product is currently implemented.

For information on the supported printers, please see the DCPS
Software Product Description (SPD). Pointers to the SPD website
are included in the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Quesitons (FAQ).

Your TCP/IP, OpenVMS, and DCPS versions are all out-dated, and
support for each of these older versions is no longer available.

Please also expunge largely meaningless phrases such as "does not
work", as this and similar statements will provide insufficient
information to permit the OpenVMS Wizard to determine what happened
nor even what did or did not work. As requested when posting a
question, the OpenVMS Wizard requires the exact error messages and
the particular commands used, as well as in cases such as this one,
  the associated DCPS configuration.
