Downloaded PCSI ECO kit corrupt? (take II)

» close window

The Question is:

how do i get updates from the web to my alpha, which does not have access to
the web, and any attempts to get data through my pc produces data which is not
 recoginized by the alpha

The Answer is :

Please see the section in the OpenVMS FAQ on correcting BACKUP file
format problems, as the root cause is likely the same: almost certainly,
the transfer through the Microsoft Windows system is effectively
corrupting the expected file formats for the ECO kit.

Make certain you use only binary-format FTP transfers, and do not trust
any particular web browser to perform the correct FTP transfer mode
  selection.

The OpenVMS Wizard would encourage you to order ECO distribution media
for the particular OpenVMS Alpha release. (The OpenVMS Wizard would
also encourage an upgrade to a supported OpenVMS release.)

All OpenVMS Alpha ECO kits for OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-2 and later releases
are based on PCSI, and do not use VMSINSTAL. Do not attempt to use any
OpenVMS ECO that is based on an VMSINSTAL installation on OpenVMS Alpha
V7.1-2 or later releases, unless explicitly instructed by Engineering.

The OpenVMS Wizard would strongly encourage you to review the information
on this topic that is present in the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQ) document. Also see (5015) -- this for how to decompress the PCSI
  ECO kits -- and see (1698), (2345), (2434), (2479), (2962), (3428), (3534),
(4176), (4745), (6940), (7042) and other topics (and the OpenVMS FAQ, to
which various of these topics point) for details on ECOs and ECO kits.
