Troubleshooting NOPRIV privilege errors?

» close window

The Question is:

We currently have two Alphas a 2100 and a 4000
both setup with one Ethernet and one FDDI network cards. The Ehternet cards are
used for users to login with. The FDDI cards are used for file transporting
direct from Alpha to Alpha. After we configured the FDDI cards on both
 machines through ucx$config

trying to telnet from one machine to another through the FDDI cards is causng
 an error which is:

 %TELNET-I-TRYING, Trying ... 191.9.200.100
%TELNET-E-CONNFAIL, Failed to connect to remote host
-SYSTEM=F=NOPRIV, insufficient privilege or object protection violation

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Answer is :

Please enable and utilize OpenVMS security auditing.

Please ensure that the telnet client and the telnet server have
  been started.

Your OpenVMS Alpha version and likely also your TCP/IP Services
version are very old, and in need of an upgrade to more current
versions. (Your OpenVMS version is no longer supported, and
the TCP/IP Services versions likely in use here have also all
  been retired.)
