OpenVMS Release Upgrade Paths?

» close window

The Question is:

The "OpenVMS Alpha, Version 7.3-1 Upgrade and Installation Manual" says that I
can directly upgrade to OpenVMS Version 7.3-1 from OpenVMS Version 7.1.2.
I did not find anything about OpenVMS Version 7.1-1H1 in this document.
Can I upgrade directly to Version 7.3-1 from 7.1-1H1!

Thank You for the help.

The Answer is :

You appear to believe that the OpenVMS manuals are wrong or
incomplete, or that the OpenVMS Wizard can provide you with a
short-cut to what is documented and supported.

The OpenVMS Wizard must disappoint you here; the manuals are
correct, and the documented list of upgrades what is supported.

For further details, please review the list of releases in the
OpenVMS upgrade documentation, and the list of releases and
upgrade paths in the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

  V7.1-1H1 and V7.1-1H2 pre-date V7.1-2, and V7.1-2 introduced
(among other things) the use of PCSI for all OpenVMS operating
system installations, upgrades, and ECOs. These two releases
and all other hardware releases are generally intended for very
limited use and only on specific platforms or within certain
hardware configurations, and only generally to be used until
a subsequent OpenVMS mainline release -- V7.1-2, in this case
  -- is available.
