Configuring TFTP and FTP?

» close window

The Question is:

Microvax 3100 85
OpenVMS 7.1
FTP file transfers.

I have read the FAQ's still need more guidance.
I wish to transfer files from the Vax to a PC
I set up a tftp server on the Win95 pc.
I successfully transfered between win95 pc's
I tried to connect from the vax but failed.
I tried...

tftp
connect xx.xx.xx.xx.69
It timed out

So I tried
ftp
port 69
connect xx.xx.xx.xx
It returned "Connection refused"

There is no security on the tftp and it worked fine under the win95 attempts.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The Answer is :

Please contact the customer support center directly, as it appears
you will require assistance configuring whichever TCP/IP stack and
version is installed on this OpenVMS VAX V7.1 host -- configuration
will require configuring routing and security, as well as enabling
the FTP client and the FTP server on the OpenVMS VAX host (for FTP)
and the TFTP client and TFTP server (for TFTP).

If you wish to attempt this configuration yourself, please review
the available TCP/IP Services documentation, or the documentation
for the appropriate third-party IP stack. In particular, look at
the security configuration and the FTP and/or TFTP configuration.

FTP uses port 21. If you wish to use TFTP -- an FTP variant which
is specialized and rather less commonly used than FTP itself in a
context such as this -- you will need an IP stack that supports the
TFTP protocol, and you will need to enable the default TFTP port 69
  (and the TFTP server).

For assistance in configuring a Microsoft Windows system, please
contact a Microsoft Windows Wizard. For assistance in configuring
OpenVMS TCP/IP Services, please contact the customer support center.
