Recovering from DDS (DAT) tape media errors?

» close window

The Question is:

I have a bad (parity) DDS 60 metre tape (DAT)but want files from it.
Every time I try to copy from it it always stops at the same place.
I tried Backup/NoCrc with no success.

Can I stop the TLZ06 tape drive from doing the parity check, so it keeps going ?

I tried
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/freeware/freeware40/dbs-tapeutils/ but it also
 fails with parity.

My system is a VAXstation 4000-90, OpenVMS 7.2.

The Answer is :

Please contact a data recovery service -- the device firmware
limits access past the error, and thus prevents OpenVMS from
accessing any data past the error. Data recovery services
generally have access to devices and to custom drive firmware
that permit access past the end-of-tape (EOT) marks and tape
  errors.
