Third-party Hardware? (Fujitsu Tape)

» close window

The Question is:

I have a Fujitsu M2483 3480 cartridge tape drive with single ended scsi hooked
to an Alpha 2100A through an Infoserver 1000. The system at times think's the
tape drive is write locked and will not write to a tape. The drive is not
 write locked and neither
is the tape. The support people from Fujitsu say that the operating system of
the Alpha is what is causing this error. I was wondering if you have any
knowledge on this type of issue. Thank you.

The Answer is :

Please first consider an upgrade to V7.2-2 or to V7.3-1 or more
recent (as available), and please apply all mandatory ECO kits and
any ECO kits that are specific to the SYS$MKDRIVER device driver.

For general information on OpenVMS with third-party SCSI devices or
with other third-party peripherals, please see the OpenVMS FAQ.
(Please contact the vendor for assistance with integrating and testing
the device -- device integration and testing is a non-trivial effort.)

The TKZ series tape devices provide (supported) compatibility with
  IBM 3480, 3490 and/or 3490E series tape media cartridges.
