MAIL Command Fails in Detached Process?

» close window

The Question is:

I have a script that invokes the mail facility as mail /subject="XXX" file who
When I run at command line it runs fine. when I run the command from a
detached process it stops the script at the mail command. How make mail work
 in this case ?

The Answer is :

Without details of why the command is stopping and exactly what you
mean by stopping, and without details of the specific MAIL command
used, and without details of any error messages received, no specific
  answer is possible.

The OpenVMS Wizard would hazard a guess that the detached process
lacks sufficient process quotas for the operation, though this is
  far from a certainty.

That said, there are any number of error messages that can be produced,
and any number of different interpretations of terms such as stopping,
and this could be as simple as an errant process quota or a logical name
that is used but undefined within the context of the detailed process.

The OpenVMS Wizard commonly uses one-line MAIL messages:

    MAIL NLA0: SYSTEM/SUBJECT="hello"

Please contact the support center directly for assistance. Expect to
be asked details of the command used, error messages received, and
  other supporting information.
