DLT Media Compatibility?

The Question is:

Can a tape written on a TZ88 tape drive be read on a TZ86 tape drive? Do I
need special parameters? I am using compactIII tapes in both drives.
However, the machines are 1k miles appart. Thanks

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard would encourage direct discussions with your HP
reseller or HP representative, as the OpenVMS Wizard is not particularly
a hardware nor a StorageWorks expert, and not particularly able to
  answer hardware questions.

As for your existing tape media question, there are existing discussions
of media compatibility, and various newer DLT drives can typically read
media written on older DLT drives.

  Please review existing topics including (1286), (8133), (8417), (8682),
and other discussions for details on DLT media compatibility, and
pointers to supporting resources and documentation.
