     Abstract

NDS update for NetWare 5 servers running with the Recman(7.x) database.

     Installation Instructions

These new files are for use with NetWare 5 servers running with support pack 4 or greater. While
the DS MAY work on any other support pack release, please be aware that Novell did not test
this, so it is to be used at your own discretion. Novell strongly recommends that all NetWare 5.0
customers running DS version 7.x upgrade their NDS files to these new versions. NetWare 5.1
does not need the SP4 update, and can be directly updated with DS 7.45. DO NOT INSTALL
THIS DS ON A NETWARE 5.1 SERVER IF YOU HAVE DS 8.x INSTALLED!

     1. Install Support Pack 4 - if it is not yet installed. See the disclaimer above when you do not
     have SP4 installed.

     2. If you run out of diskspace on SYS, and want the suballocation problem to be fixed, install
OS5SP4A on top of Support Pack 4. If you decide to not apply Support Pack 4, do NOT apply
the FILESYS.NLM from OS5SP4A.EXE! This file is not yet public released, you'll have to go to
the Filefinder in order to download it.

     3. Log into the network as ADMIN or a user with rights to SYS:SYSTEM of the file server.
Locate the following files in the SYS:\SYSTEM sub-directory:

         DS.NLM
         DSREPAIR.NLM

This file might be flagged read-only. Rename this file to *.OLD.

     4. Copy DS*.NLM to the SYS:SYSTEM directory of the NetWare 5 file server.

     5. At the console of the server being upgraded, toggle to the system console screen.

     6. Then enter the command "SET DSTRACE = *." and press <Enter> to reload DS.NLM v7.45
     without downing the server.

     7. You should then observe that DS v7.45 is being loaded.

** NOTE 1 ** Always make a backup copy of original files.

** NOTE 2 ** This DS.NLM will run on NetWare 5 with only SP3a installed, however, you will
not be able to have any benefits of the suballocation fixes made in DS. The FILESYS.NLM
included in OS5SP4A.EXE will ONLY work on a SP4 server.

** NOTE 3 ** In order to fix the suballocation issues fully, you also need an updated
FILESYS.NLM. This is distributed in OS5SP4A.EXE. Please read the readme included for
instructions how to install it. This patch is meant for NetWare 5.0 servers only. A patch for
NetWare 5.1 is in the works at this moment. You can however extract FILESYS.NLM from
     OS5SP4A.EXE.

The combination of DS enhancements and a fix in FILESYS.NLM will allow the suballocation of
     all stream files.
In order to force the current stream files to be suballocated again (this will not touch the *.DOD
     files):

SET DSTRACE=(RECMAN) // Show Record Manager messages only
SET DSTRACE=*FSC // This switch will NOT return to the command prompt until it is done.

When you switch to the "Directory Services" screen, you will see messages telling you that it is
     working on the stream files.
If you look at monitor, you should see an increase of free diskspace.

     Issue

     Changes for DS.NLM v7.45:
     1) Fixed flags on restored stream files. This is part of the DSREPAIR
     suballocation disk space fix.
     2) Removed an obsolete API.
     3) Removed the placement of 'Revision' on Dynamic Bindery objects.
     4) Prevents Alias Objects to be split off as a partition.
     5) Fixes to prevent error -618, -723, -736 when opening the database.
     6) Removed some Dstrace debug messages.
     7) Fixes to prevent orphaned 'Network address' attributes values on users.
     8) Reintroduced 'New RDN Obituaries' to fix object renames.
     9) Fixes to remove 'Network address' attributes on users after an abend.
     10) Introduced DSTRACE=*FSC for cleaning up the suballocation flag and status on stream
     files.
     11) Fixed -632 errors in authentication (Make public key changes notify
     exrefs)
     12) Fixes to get ConsoleOne working for password management
     13) Fixes a -625 when DS expects a single packet, and gets more than one
     packet.

     DSREPAIR.NLM 5.23a

     1) Enhancements for compatibilities with eDirectory.
