Well, the email filling my inbox generally fell into two categories - Helpful suggestions to try; and chastising for even *daring* to try something so unsupported as trying to run Tru64 on an AlphaPC 164SX... And you know who you are! Anyway, the prize goes to Jay Leafey for his suggestion to >>>set console graphics Gee, wouldn't it be nice if there were an installation troubleshooting section in the documentation... Right now I'm looking at the GUI installation as I proceed... Jay wins the prize: A duck dinner at The Peabody Hotel! :) [More below] ----- >>>> Daniel, Just for giggles, get back to the console prompt (>>>) and 'show console'. If it's set to "serial" that could be your problem. If it is set to 'serial' just do a 'set console graphics'. We had this come up on an Alphastation 255 that had a motherboard replacement and appeared to hang the same place yours did. Hey, it's worth a look, anyway! Jay --- Jay Leafey Memphis, TN Jay.Leafey@mindless.com <<<<<<<< Now, on to the issue of Tru64 hardware support: You folks better get used to these issues, as more and more AlphaNT owners - Who bought their machines from DIGITAL and Compaq in good faith - were left out in the cold back on August 18th and 24th. Messrs Pesatori and Capellas have written checks with their mouths in that they are taking up to a quarter billion dollar charge against earnings for the migration away from AlphaNT to NT/x86 (with ProLiant server trade-ins), as well as one-for-one trade-ins of NT licenses for either OpenVMS and/or Tru64 licenses. And now it's time to cash Messrs Capellas and Pesatori's checks... And I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm just in the first wave... More are on the way. Oh, and by the way, Tru64 is indeed supported on the 164SX: When I received my Tru64 kit with 6 CD's, included was part number AI-ROUFK-BE with CD part number AG-RCFBD-BS... And guess what? There are folders called ALPHAPC164SX & ALPHAPC164LX. Gee, if 164SX & 164LX owners weren’t supported, then why were these new SRM firmware images created for these half-flash machines to replace AlphaBIOS?!
