Slav was raised in Ukraine, where he earned a master of sciences in mathematics at Dnipropetrovsk University. He was an early Microsoft® Windows NT proponent and Windows remains his OS of choice, exemplified by his MCSE certifications in Windows NT 4.0 and 2000 and role as a Microsoft MVP for Security and ISA Server.
Slav currently resides in Melbourne, Australia with his wife Tanya and daughter Anya, and works for a major financial institution as a .NET and Linux infrastructure designer and security consultant. As one of his passions, Slav considers information security and all things related as both a profession and a hobby. His other interests include politics, history, listening to rock music, and reading Kurt Vonnegut.
