public class ImageViewer
extends javax.swing.JPanel

Class ImageViewer provides the ability to display an image (jpeg or gif) in a Frame. It includes a static utility method for loading an image.

The following code demonstrates usage.

// Use ImageViewer to load an image for us
BufferedImage myImage = ImageViewer.loadImage(new File("/home/mhall/test.jpg"));

// Construct an ImageViewer...
ImageViewer iv = new ImageViewer();

// Pass our image to the ImageViewer and make it visible...
iv.setImage(myImage);
iv.showImage();

// Hide the frame...
iv.hideImage();

loadImage

                                              throws java.io.IOException

Static convenience method that uses ImageIO to load an image
(Postcondition: returns null or a BufferedImage object)

Parameters:

file - a file to load
(Precondition: file != null)

Returns:

a BufferedImage containing the image or null if ImageIO was unable to decode the image

Throws:

java.io.IOException - if some IO error occurs

setImage

public void setImage(java.awt.image.BufferedImage image)

Set the image to display. Normally should be followed with a call to showImage() in order to display the image.

Parameters:

image - an image to display

getImage

public java.awt.image.BufferedImage getImage()

Get the current image

Returns:

a BufferedImage or null if there is no current image

showImage

public void showImage()

Pops up a window to display the current image. If the window is already open then it simply displays the current image.

hideImage

public void hideImage()

Hides the display window

paintComponent

public void paintComponent(java.awt.Graphics g)

Renders the image into this component
