HP is pleased to announce new customer release versions of CSWS_PERL for the Secure Web Server for OpenVMS and Perl for OpenVMS.

CSWS_PERL Version 2.1 and Perl for OpenVMS Version 5.8-6 run with the Secure Web Server Version 2.1 and higher for OpenVMS only. (Use CSWS_PERL Version 2.0 and Perl Version 5.6-1 ECO 3 with the Secure Web Server Version 2.0. Use CSWS_PERL Version 1.1-1 and Version Perl 5.6-1 with the Secure Web Server Version 1.3-1.)

You do not need to install the Secure Web Server to run Perl for OpenVMS.

Perl is an interpreted high-level programming language, which makes Perl programs highly portable across systems. Perl has become the premier scripting language of the Web, as most CGI programs are written in Perl. However, Perl is widely used as a rapid prototyping language and a "glue" language that makes it possible for different systems to work well together. Perl is popular with system administrators who use it for automation tasks. See The Source for Perl and Perl Mongers for general information about Perl.

CSWS_PERL allows you to write Apache modules entirely in Perl. See perl.apache.org for more information about csws_perl.

The CSWS_PERL for the Secure Web Server for OpenVMS Installation Guide and Release Notes contain software prerequisites and information about how to download, install, and run the CSWS_PERL kit on OpenVMS Alpha and OpenVMS Integrity servers.

Note: CVE-2007-1349: A flaw was discovered in the ModPerl::RegistryCooker module that was shipped with mod_perl 2.03 and earlier.

Users of mod_perl 2.03 and earlier are encouraged to check the custom code for calls to the namespace_from_uri() method and replace it with the namespace_from_filename() method.

The Perl for OpenVMS Installation Guide and Release Notes contain software prerequisites and information about how to download, install, and run the Perl for OpenVMS kit on OpenVMS Alpha and OpenVMS Integrity servers.
