PC "R"
Curently named "R" for the faded system builder logo on the front (could be "TR"?), I've had this PC for long enough that I don't remember when I got it. Its previous owner was Pacific Aerospace and it originally had AutoCAD and a few other similar programs on it. Its final role appears to have been just a terminal services client as this was set to run on startup. It was extremely dusty when I acquired it.

This machine currently has no allocated task so it lives in storage. It was pulled from storage in March 2022, given a fresh battery, and to learn about Network Booting Windows 95 which requires an ISA network card which I couldn't successfully emulate in 86Box or VirtualBox. In April 2024 it was completely dismantled (including PSU, CD-ROM and floppy drive), cleaned, drives lubricated, inventoried as COMP-003, reassembled and returned to storage.
Current Issues
This machine has the following issues waiting to be resolved:
- It needs a sound card
- CD-ROM drive needs repair or replacement (disc doesn't spin, everything else seems fine - perhaps needs a recap; there are many aluminium electrolytics on its circuit board)
- Floppy drive needs to be repaired or replaced - possibly a complete dismantling and lubricating would fix it.
- CPU cooler looks like somthing that belongs on a 486, the plastic retaining clip is broken, and the fan is noisy. The whole lot needs replacing.
- The speed display on the front is showing 120Mhz rather than the correct 133Mhz
- I don't entirely like the PSU. It seems to work OK (voltages are reasonable), but it makes a short buzzing noise on power-off. It should probably be tested in isolation before use if the computer hasn't been powered on for a while.
